Behind the Scenes of Gooseberry Falls
I love traveling to the North Shore of Minnesota. Lake Superior has many beautiful places to go visit and there are many state parks up the short of the Minnesota tip. I went there when I was younger and saw all the waterfalls, all the way up to Grand Portage. I would love to go visit them all again and last summer I started the journey.
My family and I went to Gooseberry Falls with some friends this last summer. This state park is the first one of the seven state parks that have waterfalls along the north shore. It is a beautiful park that attracts many visitors.
Gooseberry Falls has a few different waterfalls to look at. The first one isn’t too far from the visitors center and many people come to check it out. It is beautiful there! You can walk on the rocks across the river and go exploring if you want or stick to the trails. I didn’t get a picture of the first big one because there were a lot of people there, so I waited until there were fewer people farther up the trail for some pictures.
There were more waterfalls to look at if you keep hiking up the river, so we went for it! The trails were easy to hike and carry children at the same time. My husband and I both had a child we were carrying. He had my 2-year-old on his shoulders and I had our 3-month-old baby in the carrier. It was a workout! Along the way, we found some wild blueberry patches. So we were able to have a little snack on our way up. I was pretty tired after hiking to the farthest waterfalls and back, but it was worth the effort.
Tettegouche State Park
After Gooseberry Falls we drove up to Tettegouche State Park. This is the next park with amazing waterfalls! When we got there we walked along the bridge and saw this amazing view to the right. There was a beach out there we needed to go visit. It was a short hike from the parking lot. From far away it looked like a sandy beach, but when we got there it was all rocks. And the rocks were nice and warm from the sun!
I wanted to keep hiking and see some waterfalls, but we didn’t have the energy to keep hiking that day. We will have to go back next summer and continue our traveling up the north shore. I look forward to the hikes and waterfalls! Has anyone else gone to all of them?
