Escape the Winter to the White Beaches of Florida
Do you need to leave the white snow behind for some white sand? Book a ticket to Florida and pack your bags! I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the gulf side of Florida for a week this November. We are fortunate enough to have family members to stay with down there and wanted to be able to get away and escape the cold for a little while. They lived walking distance to the ocean! Here is a picture of our walk to a park one day. It was so nice to be able to go for a walk outside and wear shorts and a t-shirt. Something that would be very cold doing in November in Northern Minnesota!
As we were walking the bike trail we came across one of these trees (on top). It had spikes on the trunk! This was not a tree I was going to try climbing. We thought the spikes were soft, but when we walked up to it we saw right away that they were not! Then as we were talking along the ocean I would see these (bottom) huge trees in yards. I want one of those in my backyard! Sometimes the tree was bigger than the house.
The flowers down there were very pretty. These are favorite ones that we came across. The bottom one was also on our walk in town, it is a hibiscus. I saw a lot of pretty flowers but wanted to know if there were some hibiscus flowers. I have seen a lot of those in Hawaii when we went there, so I assumed all tropical places had them. I did not see many, but here is a pretty one we found planed in town.
Along with the flowers, I wanted to see the palm trees again. It is always nice to see the palm trees, then I know I am somewhere tropical!
And yes, we also went to the beach! Do you see the turtle? That is a wash station where you can rinse off after swimming. There were turtles all along Clearwater beach. I thought they were cute!
Here is one of the pictures from Clearwater Beach. There were a lot of people at the beach so it was tricky getting a picture without other people in there, but I got it! The gulf side of Florida was nice for swimming. The waves didn’t get too big and I wasn’t worried about my 2.5-year-old daughter running in the water. She was able to run around and not get knocked over by a wave.
Right across the street from the beach were some nice little shops and restaurants. I walked around and checked out some of them. And some of the restaurants had seafood! The best place to eat seafood is somewhere close to the ocean. Minnesota isn’t that close to any oceans, so getting seafood is a treat.
Honeymoon Beach State Park
We only went to two different beaches when we were there, but we only needed to check out two. The beaches had the most perfect white sand! It was amazing to walk on. This beach was on honeymoon island. It was in a state park. It had fewer people than Clearwater Beach. So if you like it more secluded, this is the place to go. If you get to Florida, I hope you are able to check out these beaches. The sand was amazing and the water was fun to swim in!
