Ever since I replaced my sugary ice cream every night with a smoothie, I was missing out on the ice cream. I needed something that was good and sweetened naturally, like with maple syrup or honey. Then, someone had me try this recipe…
Now that I am getting raw cow’s milk I am able to get real cream! This cream can be used many different ways and one of them is ice cream! I love ice cream and was excited that I could find a healthy alternative that tasted so good. I feel like it tastes like ice cream is supposed to taste.
How Do I Make It?
I got this recipe from The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care. There are many great recipes in the back! You can add more or less maple syrup, based on how sweet you want it to be. First you need to separate the yolk from the whites. This is fun for me and my daughter. She likes to squish the shells when I’m done.
Then beat the egg yolks and maple syrup together for a few minutes. I do this in my Kitchen Aid Mixer. If my mixer is being used to make butter I mix it in a bowl.
Beat them until they start to turn a lighter yellow color. Once the egg yolks and maple syrup are mixed together, you can add the vanilla and cream. Be careful when stirring in the cream. The cream will start to turn to butter if you mix it too much.
After this, the mixture is ready to go! Then you just need to follow the directions on your ice cream maker for the rest of it. I personally don’t have the patience for the ice cream maker, so I just stick it in the freezer and don’t mix it up. Then it needs to thaw a little while before eating.
