Are you trying to cut out sugar? Do you need a way to get some hot chocolate without the negative side effects of sugar? Then you have come to the right place! I had gone without hot chocolate for a while when I was avoiding eating sugar, then I realized one day that I could probably make some and sweeten it with maple syrup. Would that taste good?
I have tried a few different ingredients and have found a way to make it creamy and chocolaty. Are you ready?
Let’s get started!
The first thing to do is grab a pan for cooking on the stove top and put a little water in the bottom, about 1/2 cup. The water is needed to simmer all the ingredients before adding the milk. Then add about 3-4 heaping spoonfuls of cocao powder (I use my big spoons). If you like your hot chocolate to have the dark chocolate taste, then add more cocao powder. If you don’t want the strong cocao powder taste then use 3 spoonfuls. After putting the cocoa powder in the water, add a dash of salt and a splash of vanilla and turn on the burner. Simmer the cocoa powder in the water for about 2 minutes.
My favorite Vanilla
I use vanilla from Mexico, which is real vanilla! It has amazing taste and greatly enhances the flavor of the food I make with it. If you have not tried some I suggest you get some on Amazon from this link! You won’t regret it! (It also makes my ice cream taste amazing too!)
Back to the recipe…
When the 2 minutes are up I turn down the heat real low and add a table spoon of butter and maple syrup. This makes the cocao taste so creamy and adds the sweetness! Once the butter melts and the maple syrup is mixed in well I add the 1 cup of milk. Then slowly heat the milk until it is the desired temperature. Stir the milk so the cocao can be mixed in there well.
After I pour the cocao into a mug I like to add a little topping to my hot chocolate… Whipped cream! This is the whipped cream I make from the cream on top of my raw milk. This whipped cream is fun to add on top. My daughter loves to stir in her cream into her hot chocolate.
