Dehydrate Pears in Your Oven!
Have you ever tried to dehydrate fruits? I love almost all fruits and when they are on sale I buy them! I bought a bag of pears that were on sale at our local grocery store and they were great! The only problem was they were all ripe at the same time and I didn’t want them to go bad before they were eaten. My husband said, “Why don’t you just dehydrate them?” So, I looked up a few recipes for directions of how to dehydrate pears. There were a few different things that could be added to the pears to add taste, but I enjoy the pears plane with nothing extra. So I didn’t add anything to the pears when putting them in the oven.
Dehydrating the Pears
When all the pears were very ripe I got started! I have a very nice chef knife that cuts them well. So I started slicing the pear in as thin of slices and I could do. It would be more even if I were to use an electronic slicer, but I did it by hand. The thinner I cut the pear slices, the faster they cook. There were some slices that got too thick and took a long time to cook, but I just ate them. After slicing the pears I put them on wax paper on top of a pan.
After putting the pear slices on the pan I set my oven to dehydration mode. It is 150 degrees. If you have a dehydrator that works great too! The slices that were very thin took about 3-4 hours to cook all the way through. The thicker pieces took an hour or so longer.
When they were finished I gave a sample to my daughter and she loved them! She kept asking for more. We ate about half of the ones we cooked. It was hard to save some for the next day.
I hope you are able to make these at home and enjoy them as much as we did!
