Replace Your Table Salt With These Mineral Salts To Improve Your Health
One of the misunderstandings I had growing up was that salt was not good for my body! I learned that it could cause many health problems, high blood pressure being one of them. I was misinformed! There are different salts that are good for our bodies, such as Himalayan Salt and Celtic Sea Salt, and some that are not, table/commercial salt. I want to share with you what I have learned about the health benefits of salt and why you need to switch to the mineral salts today! Read below to find out why these salts are so great.

Regular Table Salt
Did you ever go to a restaurant as a high school student with your teammates after a game and play the balance the salt shaker game? Well, my teammates did. You pour our some salt on the table, then balance the shaker on the salt on one of the edges. I was never able to do it, my hand was not that steady, but I did have one teammate who could! I was impressed. What we didn’t know about the salt was the other added ingredients in the salt that was unseen.
This salt found in the restaurant was not real mineral salt. This salt was iodized at very high temperatures. The high temperatures basically cooked out all the nutrients it potentially held at one time. Other ingredients were added to the salt including “sodium chloride, as well as an assortment of chemicals like synthetic iodine, fluoride, aluminium, bleaching agents, and even sugar just to name a few” (Natural News, 2014, p. 3)
What does table salt do to our bodies?
This isn’t salt! I was disappointed to learn this. But I guess there was one thing right, yes this salt was bad for you. What they weren’t telling us was the real salt, like Himalayan Salt that was made of minerals, was good for our bodies. The table salt, which lost all salt properties after it was made, was making our bodies work 10 times harder to digest properly and taking away energy from other parts of our bodies that needed the energy to function properly.
When I was reading Natural News it said that “Table salt causes blood pressure to rise very quickly, because the blood is attempting to move toxic elements within the salt as quickly as possible away from the heart.” No wonder the doctors told us salt was bad for us. It did raise blood pressure and it was good to advise patients to stay away from table salt.
Table salt is also apart of many processed foods. It is hidden in these foods that are consumed daily by most people and also causing many health hazards. Some of the side effects that will be noticed will be ” swelling and, over time, major thyroid, liver and kidney problems, as well as the development of asedema, goiters, hypertension, strained elimination systems, muscle cramps, heart disease, water retention, stroke, edema, PMS, heart failure, and even major nervous system disorders such as depression and anxiety.” (Natural News, 2014, p. 12) Yikes! Not to mention that this altered salt is very addictive. That is more than enough information for me to avoid this salt.
Did you know that all cells in our bodies need salt? Yes! That means you can add extra salt to your meals with no guilt. I do this all the time now. According to Natual News article on salts, our bodies need salt for balancing circulation, bone density, and keeping your sugar levels in check.
One of the myths I hear about salt is that it dehydrates our bodies. Then I find out that the minerals in Himalayan Salt actually helps keep our bodies hydrated. That is not what media has told us! Himalayan Salt is found at the bottom of the Himalayan Mountains. The salt has been forming for a long time and has been untouched by pollution! That is hard to find. This salt has 84 minerals and elements that are very beneficial for our bodies. This is the highest concentration of mineral count in salt that has been found and Himalayan Salt contains it!
I never used to put a lot of salt of my foods before I started using Himalayan Salt. When I started to use it the color was more of a pink color and it was very salty, which meant that it is concentrated. I didn’t need to add a lot of it to my food to get a salty taste. When you first start to use this salt, keep that in mind. Don’t load it on right away until you are used to the taste. After a while I got used to it and now I love salt on most of my meals! My food just isn’t the same without salt.
Another salt that contains 84 trace minerals is the Celtic Sea Salt. This salt is made from clay ponds that are near the sea. When the salt water evaporates it leaves behind the Celtic Salt. It also has many health benefits that are similar to the Himalayan Salt. Since it is made of many minerals it helps our bodies digest foods, prevents swelling, regulates blood sugars, boosts the immune system, controls saliva, balances blood sugars, helps with diabetes, and many other benefits found from Celtic Sea Salt: 12 Reason Why it should be in your diet.
I use this salt in my home as well and I think it has good flavor. It is also much saltier than regular table salt, so I didn’t need to use a lot of it when cooking. But now as I am used to using salt all the time I enjoy having extra salt on my food to help it taste good. After learning that salt can actually be good for me then I started to use it more and really enjoy it!
What salt do you use? Do you need to switch over to these salts in your kitchen like I did?
